Product Title: FA Tavrohk. Fire Angel's herd beast. Product Date: August 2013. Product Copyright: Copyright August 2013 The Fire Angel. Author: The Fire Angel Author E-mail: Available after purchase. -------------- Needed Files List and System Required: Poser 8 or later. This product was created on a Mac and should work on both Mac and PC. The product was created using Poser 6 and should work in that version (and Poser 7) but I DO NOT GUARANTEE THIS and in addition I DO NOT SUPPORT USE OF THIS PRODUCT WITH VERSIONS OF POSER EARLIER THAN POSER 8. I would love to support them all but Poser 8 and later is the best I can do from this product onwards. A minimum of 4Gb of RAM with Poser (Mac and PC). 6Gb of RAM is recommended for use with any meaningfully detailed set loaded. -------------- Ownership statement: All of this product's content was created by The Fire Angel. Blender was used for all modelling. Poser 6 and Poser 8 plus the BB-Edit Lite text editor were used to create the Poser format files. PhotoShop Elements was used for the texturing. All source files have been kept in case proof of copyright is needed. -------------- Detailed Installation Instructions Extract the zip-archive with your zip program: - Open WinZip and press the button "Extract". In the window "Folders/drives", select the folder that contains your Poser program (for example c:\program files\Poser4\). The check box "Use Folder names" must be marked. That way, all files will be placed in the correct path. -------------- Conversion and/or application instructions Mac users will need to install using a manual method (or an Applescript known as "Merge Folders"; Google or another search engine will help you find it; make sure you get version 1.1 or later). -------------- Usage Tips/Limitations Things in this document aren't always described in the order that you will see them in the menus, but in an order convenient for description. Head/Neck seam: The body textures and the head textures for this model are all 4000x4000 pixels for maximum detail; however the head textures cover a much smaller area. For this reason the bump setting in Poser for the "SkinBody" and "SkinHead" have to be different to give the proper match between the body and head. This means that if you zoom in really really close to the seam it will show up. Although it is unlikely that you will ever want to zoom that close, if you do there are two ways to deal with this: 1. Spend ages tweaking the bump settings or 2. scale the head textures to 2048x2048 to make them match those on the body and then set the bump height on "SkinBody" and "SkinHead" to the same value. A far better way though is just zoom back and show more of the creature... The Tavrohk model is especially designed to use less memory than most Poser figures. You should, on most systems good enough to run Poser 8 or later, be able to load an environment plus between 15 and 30 Tavrohk quite easily (assuming your system has 4Gb of RAM or more). This is the reason why there are several Tavrohk figures instead of one version with lots of morphs; morphs take a lot of memory. It takes less memory to load a Male Tavrohk Figure and a Female Tavrohk figure than it would to load two copies of one figure that could morph between male and female. The same applies to the juvenile and the baby. The baby figure has a mere 38,792 polygons in the baby and 43,706 polygons in the other versions, and with few morphs that low polygon count really helps. However to fill the gap between the baby and the juvenile there are a few extra morphs in the baby, and an extra dial in the "Hip" of the baby Tavrohk; this is the "Age In Years" dial, set by default to 0 (so it's at newborn size). If you set this to 0.5 then the Tavrohk grows and changes proportions to reach half a year in age, and so on up to the dial limit of 2 years. By this time the baby won't be much smaller than the juvenile, so the set of figures is adequate to make complete herds. Remember if you're making a herd scene it can help to use the MAT poses to give some of your herd different eye colours. This adds a bit of individuality to the Tavrohk without taking up a lot of your computer's memory. You can also scale the figures by selecting the hip and using the scale dials there; these dials have been set up to scale the entire figure not just the hip. In addition the horns on adult figures can vary in length a little using the "Horns Lenghten" dial; this dial can be set to negative values to shorten the horns. When making a herd image I recommend using the top view, loading figures one at a time, using the supplied poses and then dragging the figures into position using the "hip" body part (you will need to zoom back quite a bit in the top view first). Periodically you will want to go back the the rendering camera view to check your composition. Once you have all of your herd in position it will be a little obvious that they are all in one of three or four poses if you just leave them like that. So to add variation select the "Neck1" body part and use the bend, side-to-side and twist dials to add some subtle variation into the head positions. This nicely disguises the similarity in posing without adding a huge amount to your workload. Notice that if you rescale the Tavrohk you may need to select the hip and change the vertical position or use Poser's "Drop to floor" feature. This applies to all of the Tavrohk figures. -------------- 1. Figures menu: Tavrohk: Tavrohk Baby, Tavrohk Female, Tavrohk Juvenile, Tavrohk Male. Note that all four versions of the Tavrohk can share poses and most of the time they will work properly. If making poses for interaction between adult and baby Tavrohk though you should make each pose using the figure it is intended for, like those provided. After using poses on rescaled Tavrohk you may need to select the hip and move the figure vertically so it sits on the ground properly, or use the "Drop to Floor" function if your Poser ground is at the default ground plane level. The reset Poses are different; there needs to be a separate reset pose for the adults, the juvenile and the baby, so these have been provided. The Tavrohk baby uses a separate lower polygon count .OBJ file with just 38,792 polygons, so it should render quickly and take little memory. The differences with the baby figure include the absence of the polygons needed for shaping horns, plus the hip has the extra "Age In Years" dial to scale the baby from a newborn up to a maximum of 2 years in age. Note that this dial doesn't just rescale the figure it also changes the proportions, with the nice big clumpy baby feet growing less than the rest of the figure, so that by the time it is 2 years old the proportions are much closer to the adult and juvenile figures. The Juvenile loads scaled to 90% so that it is a little smaller than the adults. It has very short, stubby horns and the same polygon count as the adults at 43,706 polygons. Because of the scaling the figure may need repositioning vertically after applying the suspplied poses, most of which were made using the adults. The Adult figures are very similar with the male having a slightly heavier build around the shoulders and neck and much larger horns. Both have 43,706 polygons like the Juvenile. Morphs and extra dials: In the Juvenile and both Male and Female adult figures the morph list is the same. There are the usual Poser "Bend", "Twist" and "Side-Side" type of dials in most of the joints, though in some body parts some dials have been hidden as they don't make sense for this creature. In addition there are the following dials in the head, in sensible groups to make life easier: Mouth: OpenMouth Jaw Sideways Upper Lip Raise Lower Lip Down Mouth Corners Up (Can be set to negative values to pull them down). Eyelids: rUpper Lid Down (This dial is suppressed by the rBlink dial) lUpper Lid Down (This dial is suppressed by the lBlink dial) rBlink lBlink Other: Nostrils Flare Horns Lengthen (Can be set to negative values to shorten the horns. The baby does not have horns so this dial is absent in the baby figure). In the Neck body part there are three morph-controlled ERC dials: BendNeckAll TwistNeckAll SidewaysNeckAll The tail of the figure is in seven segments, but you would normally only bother to select the Tail1 body part as it has three morph-controlled ERC dials to move the entire tail: Bend All Sideways All Twist All In the Baby only There is an additional dial in the Hip body part: Age In Years This starts at zero and has a maximum setting of 2. By the time it is 2 years old the creature is modestly smaller than the default size of the juvenile. Note that as mentioned before this dial doesn't just make the baby bigger, it changes the proportions of the figure; the baby with the age dial set at zero has the proper extra-large feet of a baby animal, but as is grows the feet do not grow as much as the rest of the figure, changing the proportions to something nearer to those of the Juvenile and Adult figures. In all of the figures the scaling dials in the hip are designed to scale the entire figure, to make it easier to do this. -------------- 2. Poses menu: Tavrohk MAT: Rendering tip; sometime when rendering distant views of the Tavrohk you may wish to increase the bump height settings. The supplied settings are good for most distances in most lighting, but some lighting setups could mean that it is a good idea to increase bump height. So that it is easy to return a figure to the defaults the "Tavrohk Skin" MAT pose sets all of the Tavrohk's materials to the default settings. The other MAT poses change only the eye colour of the selected Tavrohk. Since the eye map is relatively small this is a good way in a herd scene to introduce variation into your herd without taking up all of your computer's RAM. 3. Poses menu: Tavrohk Poses: The supplied poses were mostly prepared using the adult female and will work equally well on the other versions of the figure most of the time. However sometimes when a pose is applied to one of the Tavrohk figures that was created using another one there is a minor problem with vertical positioning. Select the hip and drag the figure up or down, or use the "Drop to floor" feature in Poser. Some of the poses are intended for specific figures, and in those cases the name of the pose and sometimes the icon will help you determine which figure from the family it is for. Paired poses are provided to show Tavrohk greeting each other. These are clearly marked with an outline to show which of the two figures they are for; select the right figure before applying the pose. Finally a posing suggestion for all users; if you want your images to look original it is usually best to use most of the supplied poses as a starting point. Just selecting 'Neck1" and then repositioning the head will often add that little touch that makes an image noticably different from everyone else's. Posing the ears: If the "Twist" dial is mixed with other dials it is usually best to keep the setting modest, between -20 and 20 degrees of twist works well. More than 25 degrees will deform the ears sometimes if the "Up-Down" or "Fwd-Back" dials are used as well. The Ear dials labelling may seem a little odd with "Up-Down" on one ear and "Down-Up" on the other; in all cases the positive movement is listed first, just to make it easier to remember which is which. Another posing tip for all Tavrohk figures; include morphs when saving Poses. Most of the time any figure with ERC dials doesn't save the ERC dial settings when you save a pose, but all of the ERC dials in this figure are morph-controlled. Making the figure work this way means that if you save the morph settings with a pose the ERC settings will apply to a figure when the pose is reloaded. -------------- 4.
