Note that the models should work in Poser 6 and later, but I can't provide support for versions of Poser earlier than Poser 8. I'd love to support them all but it just isn't practical. A minimum of 512Mb of RAM with Poser (Mac and PC). 6Gb of RAM is recommended for use on Poser with any meaningfully detailed set loaded. -------------- Ownership statement: All of this product's content was created by The Fire Angel. Blender was used for all modelling. Poser 6 and Poser 8 plus the BB-Edit Lite text editor were used to create the Poser format files. PhotoShop was used for the texturing. All source files have been kept in case proof of copyright is needed. -------------- Detailed Installation Instructions Extract the zip-archive with your zip program: - Open WinZip and press the button "Extract" In the window "Folders/drives", select the folder that contain your Poser program. (for example c:\program files\Poser4\). - The check box "Use Folder names" must be marked. That way, all files will placed in the correct path. -------------- Conversion and/or application instructions Mac users will need to install using a manual method (or an Applescript known as "Merge Folders"; Google or another search engine will help you find it; make sure you get version 1.1 or later). -------------- Materials: If you want to texture these vehicles yourself there is a guide to doing so in the Documentation folder, called FA-FutureTraffic1TextureGuide.txt. -------------- Usage Tips/Limitations These models don't render at their best if loaded on their own; they have reflection nodes in the shaders for many material zones so they need objects around them to provide something to reflect. Put the cars in a city or landscape set with a sky-dome or some similar lighting and they will look superb, but even just adding a textured ground plane is a help. In addition THEY ARE NOT MADE FOR CLOSE UP USE, but for middle-foreground to distant use. You can fill an entire street with cars, then use the supplied MAT poses to make them different colours, giving a fair imitation of a credible line of traffic. I have loaded more than thirty of these into a scene and yet still made a good appearance by using the MATs, as you can see in the promo renders. These models are designed to allow you to properly fill a street with lots of cars in the background and through to the middle foreground. For that they should be very useful. There are a lot of files and plenty of options; I'll run through them and where you will find them one area at a time. Note that I don't always describe things in the order in which they appear in the Poser menu. 1. Figures menu: FA Future Traffic : There are four models, all rigged with a similar ERC rig to make them easier to use. They all use the same set of dials to make ity really simple to use them; once you are familiar with one you know how to use all of the cars. The only part of each car you can select directly with the mouse is the CarBody; this is deliberate, it makes it very simple to find the dials, they are all in one place. Note that with some versions of Poser you can't save poses that pose normal ERC dials. The ERC dials in this product though, can have poses saved for them, IF YOU INCLUDE MORPHS IN SAVED POSES. This works because the ERC rig uses null morphs to trigger Morph-controlled dials. Yes, as well as a joint-controlled morph you can have a morph-controlled joint! You don't have to worry about the technical details, just use them like any other dial. 1.1 Steering: As you might expect this makes the front sheels on each vehicle turn and also moves the steering wheel. 1.2. All Wheels Rotate: This dial makes all four wheels rotate, and is rigged to use degrees for the rotation amount like any standard Poser rotation dial. 1.3. Roll Fwd/Back: This dial is handy for animators; it not only rotates all of the wheels but moves the car the correct distance over the ground, making it really simple to animate the cars moving. For cases where animators need to animate the wheels manually their diameters are: Car 1, 2 & 3; 0.287 Poser Units, Car 4; 0.259 Poser Units. 1.4. Right Hand Drive. This dial changes the cars from left hand drive to right hand drive, for renders set in the UK, Japan and other countries where people drive on the left side of the road. 2. Poses menu: Future Traffic MATs:Full MATs: These MAT poses are specific to each car, as labelled. Each returns the car's materials to their default state, very handy if you have been experimenting with shaders and want to return the car to known material settings. DAZ Studio users should ALWAYS apply one of these before rendering, followed by any other MATs you want to apply. 3. Poses Menu: Future Traffic MATs:Gloss Bodywork: All of these MAT poses will work with any of the four cars, plus any Future Traffic models from other sets in the series. They all use shaders with no texture maps and so using them keeps the cars very economical with memory. 4. Poses Menu: Future Traffic MATs:License Plates: There are a lot of options here. There are: 6 "Alien 1" style plates (see explanation below) 2 California 8 Colonial Administration plates 2 Delaware 4 US Federal Government plates 2 Idaho 2 Illinois 2 Kansas 6 Kudai (again, see below) 2 Louisiana 2 Nevada 2 New Jersey 2 New York 2 Pennsylvania 2 Police plates 2 Rhode Island 2 Texas 8 Tokyo (see below) 8 UK 4 User customisable 2 Washington plates In addition if you have my FireStar Sedan any license plate MATs from that package can be used and these MATs can be used on the FireStar. There is a good selection of US states and a reasonable number of UK plates. Most of the time in a scene not all that many plates are actually visible so those provided should give you enough options for almost any scene. Each Future Traffic set will have a good selection of plate options so if you buy more than one you will have a very large collection of license plate options for yuour scenes. If your rendered scene represents an alien world then you may want to use the "Alien 1" plates, after all it's not likely they would have their plates in English, or indeed any other Earthly language. The Kudai plates are similarly useful and match the style of options from some of my other products, so they are especially useful if you have those products. If your render is set on a colony of Earth then the Colonial Administration plates are useful instead of the alien ones. The Tokyo options are slightly altered from the real-world design, adding an extra numeric digit to the numeric part of the plate. This is to represent what may happen if Japan eventually needs to change the license plate system to accomodate a larger number of cars on the road. The User customisable options are also a help to some users. Note that the textures are .TIF not .JPG files, and that there are separate textures for the front and rear plates. Many European nations require front and rear plates on a vehicle to be of different colours, like the UK plates where the front plate is black lettering on a white background while the rear plate must be black on yellow. The difference is only to the apparent "glow' of the lights within their casings; they don't cast light into the scene. If you want that, use post-work or add spot-lights to the scene and parent them to the car. 6. DAZ Studio: These cars should be used from the supplied Runtime folder. If you use Poser as well as DAZ Studio then you just merge the supplied Runtime to your Poser Runtime folder and then set DAZ Studio to use it as the folder to import Poser content from. If you don't use Poser as well, then you need to have a Poser Runtime folder selected for import of Poser models, just use the one provided and merge any other Poser products you buy into it to install their content. Before rendering in DAZ Studio, as mentioned previously always apply one of the Full MATs and THEN any other MATs you want to use to change body colur, license plates etc. The materials as imported from Poser files are sort of OK, but the supplied DAZ Studio material scripts will be automatically used by Studio if you select the MATs, and they do a better job than the automatic importer can manage. 7.
