Today the British two handed Fingerspelling is only a small part of the British Sign Language. However it is the part that everyone can easily learn. So is it not time for your 3D Characters to learn and use. By special request here are the poses for Scampixie Pranx by elleque and trumarcar. These poses are in both Daz Studio DUF and Poser PZ2 formats. However they are only partial poses and will only affect your characters rotation settings from the Collar down to fingers and thumb. This enables you to use other poses to stand / sit your character before using the Fingerspell Pose. There are poses for both Left Handed and Right Handed Characters. However British Fingerspell is not a single static pose so you will also not only get the 26 Finish Poses but also for animation 25 start poses (C does only has a finish pose) and also three mid poses for 'J'. I have also done a 'C' pose to affect only the Right or Left arm. This allows if animating to not change the opposite arm. This is useful when animating and doing a word like 'ACE' where the non movement arm/hand would not change for the A and E and because the C is so individual, signers would not move the non movement arm whilst signing the C. Hints for using in animation. I have been using full BSL signing in animation for a number of years since and it has become easier as the Genesis character has evolved. Most of what I have been using is for either the original Sadie or for Genesis and using aniMate2. Where i would create aniblocks for signs I have realised that doing blocks for individual letters does not work very well. It is better if need to use fingerspelling to create aniblocks for the word that needs to be fingerspelt. Hence the poses for both Start and Finish positions. BSL fingerspelling if done correctly means that the two handshapes are created with the right or Left hand dependant on whether Right or Left Handed signing is in use being a short distance away from the final position the hand then moves to the finish position. For example when right handed signing the left hand once the hand shape is created is then static and only the right hand moves. There are four exceptions to this and they are 'B' and 'W' where both hands both together, 'H' where the the right/Left hand fingers are actually touching the palm of the opposite hand and slides up the hand to the finger tips and 'J' where the the index finger of right/left hand makes the shape of a 'J' running down mid finger and palm and up the thumb. Therefore my suggestion for animating is that you use the Start Pose and hold in place for about three frames and then use the Finish Pose about 8 frames later dependent on the speed of signing you want to do again hold in this position for at least 3-4 frames. You can then in many cases use the start pose for the next character 5-8 frames later. However dependent on the to letters being used you may experience the hand / fingers cutting through the opposite hand this is especially noticeable when using 'W' therefore if you get this use the start pose of the letter again after as this will move the hands back apart and then use the start pose for the next letter. Generally only need to do over 5-6 frames. I have found that you can do a 7 character word in about 4 seconds of animation. If you have aniMate2 then you can once you have saved your aniblock speeden up or slow down as you see fit. NB. If using speech though signing individual letters of the word you say the word not the individual letters. --------------------------------------------------------------- Installation Instructions --------------------------------------------------------------- Two download files, one for Daz Studio with the DUF format files and one for Poser for the PZ2 format files.
