--------------------------------------------------- Product Name: Meigs Experimental Monorail Copyright 2019 Michael Crisafulli Contact Michael_C via Renderosity Site Mail -------------------------------------- Product Description Hoping to provide a modern, safe transportation system for Boston, in 1886 Joe V. Meigs built a stretch of monorail track and a three-car monorail train to demonstrate the feasibility of his design. The Meigs Experimental Monorail consists of several Poser figures with many operating parts. FIGURES The Meigs Monorail figures have full ERC control at the Body level: Engine, Tender, and Passenger Car o Wheels operate together realistically o Cabin doors unlatch and open individually o Windows open individually Engine and Passenger Car o Porch Gates open individually Engine o Drive wheels turn coordinated with steam engines and truck wheels o Engineer controls operate o Firebox Door unlatches and opens Tender o Water Tank Inlets open o Water valves operate Passenger Car o Center Seats rotate individually The Monorail Train compound figure consists of the Engine figure and the Tender and Passenger Car child figures. Each child figure is parented to the Coupler of the vehicle directly in front. PROPS The Monorail Train figure is preloaded with smart props. Other smart props may be loaded manually: o Smoke o Alternate Passenger Car platform opening chains o Additional coal bin slat A construction kit of monorail track props is included for building a railway: o Ground-level straight and curved track o Elevated straight and curved track o Additional structural components Posts for an elevated railway are included as adjustable figures. An example Elevated Track compound figure is also provided as a guide for building a railway. POSES o M4 and V4 passenger and crew poses o Hide/Show Engine exterior for interior viewing o Default Train MAT CAMERAS o Four Full camera sets tailored for easy viewing and rendering of the train or individual cars - Include main, auxiliary, left, right, top, bottom, front and back cameras o Many individual Dolly cameras to view the car interiors LIGHTS o Simple day and night light sets o Simple interior lights TEXTURES Image maps up to 4000x4000. All components are UV-mapped with texture templates included. GEOMETRY The figures and props use external geometry in the Poser geometries folder. -------------------------------------- System Requirements: Poser 6 and above, including Poser 11 Tested in DAZ Studio 4.10 (see below) -------------------------------------- Ownership Statement: All of the content in this package was created by Michael Crisafulli (Michael_C) and may include derivatives of the following vendor/merchant resources: One or more textures on this 3D model have been created with images from Textures.com. These images may not be redistributed by default. Please visit www.textures.com for more information. One or more textures use resources from Wild Textures (www.wildtextures.com). One or more textures use public domain resources from Wikimedia Commons. One or more textures were built using the following merchant resources: o Art of Dreams Metal (www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/metal/93836) o LaurieS Stressed Metal Texture Kit (www.daz3d.com/shop/stressed-metal-texture-kit/) -------------------------------------- Notes on the Model The Monorail model is based on historical photographs, descriptions, artwork, and Meigs' patent and book about the monorail system. The sine function used to coordinate engine piston movement uses information from VK's 2006 tutorial "How to write ARC code". The tutorial is available in the Internet Archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20130217213320/http://www.atlantis23.com/arc_download.html -------------------------------------- Installation Instructions: Unzip files to your main Poser directory, being sure to check "Use Folder Names" and the files will unpack to their proper location. Refer to the file list below for file locations. Components are found in the "Michael_C/Monorail" folder within each of the Poser sub-libraries (Figure, Pose, etc.). Note that although most of the Poser files may be moved to other locations, the geometries and textures MUST be in the listed locations. -------------------------------------- Usage Tips: The Monorail figures uses ERC controls at the Body level. For easy access to the controls the figures' Body loads selected by default. The Monorail Train is a compound figure consisting of Engine, Tender and Passenger Car figure figures, parented together. To move the entire train select the Engine figure. To pose the train for going around a curve, for example, first position the Engine, then select the Tender and Passenger Car in turn, adjusting each one's direction using the "Turn Car" Control parameter. (do NOT use the car's yRot parameter.) Each car will rotate but remain attached to the coupler of the vehicle immediately in front. Additional adjustments are made as needed (see PARAMETER DIALS, below). The train was constructed by loading the Engine figure first, then loading the Tender figure and parenting it to the Engine Coupler Box. Next the Passenger Car figure was loaded and parented to the Tender Coupler Box. You can add an additional Passenger Car by loading the Passenger Car again, adjusting its zTran so that its front coupler matches (approximately -128.2) the rear coupler of the first Passenger Car and then setting its parent to the to the rear Coupler Box (CouplerBox_1) of the first Passenger Car. PARAMETER DIALS - The parameter dial groups load collapsed for convenience. Open a group or subgroup to use it. Transform These standard dials control rotation and position of the figure. Resize - This dial changes the size of the entire figure. For the Train compound figure the Engine's Transform parameters are used for the entire train. Use the Control parameter group of the Tender and Passenger Car to turn these cars, not the standard Transform parameters. Control Roll Wheels - the front and back tilted and horizontal wheels roll together realistically in forward or backward directions. On the Engine this control also turns the two driving wheels coordinated with the two engine pistons (this coordination is limited by the sine function to 360 degrees in either direction). Turn Car (Tender and Passenger Car) - the car rotates around its front coupler. Turn Trucks – Turn the car's trucks together to match a curved track. Adjust Turn These controls adjust the trucks individually to better match the track. Adjust Trucks These optional controls adjust the X and Z tilt of the trucks individually. These are only needed for an uneven or tilted track. Doors Unlatch and open each door individually. Windows Open each window individually. The Engine and Passenger Car have additional controls: Gates Open the side Gates from the car to the platform individually. The Engine has these additional controls: Control Drive – Turns the two driving wheels coordinated with the two engine pistons (limited to 360 degrees in either direction). Engineer Controls Operate the five control levers on the control panel individually. Boiler Unlatch and open the boiler firebox door. In addition the Engine's large center drive wheels turn in coordination with the steam engine pistons for the first 360 degrees of motion. The Tender has additional Miscellaneous controls: Open the water tank valves Open the water tank fill covers Open adjacent windows for external access to the tank fills The Passenger Car has additional controls to individually rotate the center row seats. POSES People There are M4 and V4 poses for the Engineer, for standing on the Engine or Passenger Car platforms, and sitting in the Passenger Car. These poses may require adjustment for clothing. (Note that all poses are for the Monorail Train in its as-loaded position. Parent a figure to the car it is in before moving the train.) Shell HIDE/SHOW Hiding the Engine exterior shell gives a view of Engine interior. Train MAT Restores the train's original materials. CAMERAS The cameras are positioned for the figures in their default loaded positions. - The Train Set adjusts all the standard cameras to show the entire Monorail. - The individual car sets adjust the standard cameras for each car. - The Dolly CAMs provide views of the car interiors using Dolly Camera settings. Note that all cameras are set for the figure default load position. PROPS In addition to the preloaded props: Smart Props o Smoke – This is a 2-dimensional billboard. Use the prop Turn and Tilt dials to rotate the smoke to optimize rendered appearance. You may also use the Wind and scale dials to change the size or shape of the smoke. o Chains – The Passenger Car loads with a chain closing off the back porch opening and a stowed chain at the front porch opening to the Tender. Additional props are included to close the front opening and open the rear one. o Coal Bin Slat – This prop is positioned atop the single front slat of the pre-loaded coal bin. (The amount of coal in the bin can appear to change by selecting the pre-loaded Coal Pile prop and raising or lowering it using the Adj Amount parameter.) LIGHTS The simple Sun and Moon lights work better than the default Poser lights but probably need augmentation or replacement for serious renders. The car interior lights load as the car default locations. They should be parented to the car to be used after a car is moved. These are simple lights and should be adjusted to achieve the render you want. ------------------------------ -- DAZ Studio Compatibility - ------------------------------ The Train and car figures load, operate, and render in DAZ Studio. DAZ Studio uses different camera designations from Poser so the included camera presets don't all work. Those that work may require adjustment. --------------------------------------------------- List of files contained within this product's zip files. :Documentation:Michael_C Meigs_Monorail_ReadMe.txt Marketplace_Standard_License.txt :Runtime:Geometries:MCC:Monorail BBSmokePlane.obj CoalBinSlatUVP.obj CoalBinUV1P.obj CoalPileUV3P.obj ColumnTopUVP.obj ColumnUVP.obj CurtainUVP.obj CurveTrack1UVP.obj CurveTrack2UVP.obj EngineTestP.obj EngineUV3P.obj FooterUVP.obj HotCoals2UV.obj PassCarUV3P.obj PorchChainP.obj Post1UVP.obj Post4P.obj StowedChainChainp.obj TenderUV3aP.obj Track1UVP.obj Track2UVP.obj :Runtime:libraries:Camera:Michael_C:Monorail !
