A "kitbash" is a collection of 3D models that you can arrange in different ways to build a scene of your own design. The "Istahr Kitbash Collection" is a collection of over one hundred (100) models for the Ancient Persian of Istahr. Istahr was a major trading city situated on the Polver River during the Achaemenid and Sasanian Empires (7th Century BC). This is a collection of sixteen (16) human figures dressed in the clothing of the Archaemenid Period that can be used to help populate any scene of the busy areas of the city. The "people" are all medium-resolution static-pose males. These are intended for use in the middle-ground and background. You can put your own characters in the foreground, or among them in the middle ground. Some of these men are walking, climbing the stairs of the Fire Temple or the main Government Building, standing and talking in small groups, or drinking from the City's main fountains. Hafez is the man with a paddle in his hand, ready to sit in the skiff or other boats in the "River Group" of objects. Six of the people are Zoroastrian priests dressed in white clothing. The clothing of these figures is as accurate for the period as could be determined from paintings, carvings and two written descriptions made by European voyagers to the area. All Zoroastrian males over the age of seven years wear the "Sedreh" and the "Kushti" for religious ceremonies. The Sedrah is a simple white shirt with an small pocket in the inner front that collects one's good deeds. The Sedrah is considered to be a spiritual shield that protects the person from evil acts. The Kushti is a cord made of 72 fine white and woolen threads, which represent the 72 chapters of the Yasna, the primary liturgical texts of the Avesta. It is wound three times around the waist and tied twice in a double knot at the front and back. During the Archaemenid Empire, high ranked priests also work various garments of deep purple, although only white clothing is worn by most Zoroastrians today. Three of the "people" including the fellow paddling the skiff are manual laborers and are dressed in shalvar (full, flowing pants) of rough cotton, two of them wearing "aba" which are simple, sleeveless outer garments, and one wearing a "korta" which is a blouse-like shirt with sleeves. Six of the people are more high-ranked men, wearing various forms of the shalvar, quisma, kandu and kamerband. "Shalvar" or "salvar" are full volumnious pants, descending to the ankles, worn by both men and women in Persia since antiquity with many variations in fabric and details. These are sometimes known as "harem pants" in the West. "Quisma" is a shirt that generally opens and closes on the right shoulder and has somewhat close-fitting sleeves. Kandu (or "kandys" or "jabba") is a long or three-quarter, loose-fitting gown with relatively tight sleeves, worn by men over other garments. The kandu is fastened at the front by a "kamerband" or cloth girdle. Kandu are made from a vast variety of materials befitting the social status of the wearer. These materials mostly are fine cloth, but could include fur or brocade and could be adorned with gold embroidery, braid or pearles. One of the figures in this group, "Tausif" is wearing a green-brown brocade kandu with small gold balls lining the front. His dress includes green silk quisma and shalvar, with the quisma tied together at the shoulder with gold-threaded cords. Ancient Persian males wore a great variety of headdresses some of which are included here. "Sarband" are cloth headresses, tied in a variety of ways that include simple "turbans" and simple single head wraps with some lengths of cloth hanging down the back. Tall conical felt hats were popular among high ranked nobles, and various kinds of loose caps were worn by working men and women. The Zoroastrian priests all have simple white cloth caps. "Cakma" are high leather boots, and some of the men are wearing "kafs" a general term for suede leather or felt slippers. INCLUDED IN THIS PRODUCT: To distinguish each of the figures, each man has been given an old Persian name. "Abbas" is a male figure that is drinking at a fountain with a bronze cup in his hand, and his head is thrown back. He is wearing a dark blue kandu and simple sarband, and white cotton quisma and salvar. The name "Abbas" means someone who is brave as a lion and sober by nature. "Adib" is one of the Zoroastrian priests. He is posed as climbing up a set of stairs. The name "Adib" relates to a person who is well-mannered and scholarly. An educated and civilized person is often callen an "Adib. "Arash" is a high ranked nobleman wearing a tall conical hat, and long flowing red silk kandu. He is in conversation with his arms in the air. The name "Arash" means "bright arrow." Arash was a legendary archer in old Persian mythology. "Aref" is another man in conversation, listening quietly to others. He is wearing a fern green faille silk kandu, with fine grey striped silk quisma and salvar. "Aref"is a name meaning someone wise, knowledable and who has a sage-like character. "Baht" is a young working man striding along quickly. He is wearing a simple worn red aba with loose cap to match and tan twill salvar. "Baht" is someone pure and innocent in his behavior - a classic Persian name. "Baraz" is a high ranked male in classic red "Persian star" patterned kandu, glossy white silk quisma and salvar and high black suede cakma. He is posed as having a knee up on a fountain or step, listening intently to another person. "Baraz" means someone who is illustrious. "Bashir" is a Zoroastrian priest without a cap, looking back over his shoulder. The name "Bashir" means a wise man who is bringing good news. "Dabeer" is another relatively high-ranked person drinking at a fountain. He is posed with his head somewhat downward, and has a bronze cup in his hand. He is wearing a pale yellow crepe quisma and salvar, covered with a light-blue "ottoman" cloth kandu. The name "Dabeer" stands for someone knowledgable, a giver and a teacher. "Esfir" is one of the Zoroastrian priests standing in conversation, clothed in plain white. "The word "Esfir" implies "star-like" - someone who emits light. "Eskander" is a working man, dressed in a simple white korta and white turban, blue salvar and walking with a wooden pole. "Eskander" is a name that signifies strength and bravery. It is the Persian word for 'Alexander.' "Hafez" is the man paddling the skiff. He is dressed in a simple cotton salvar and aba, but has a thick dark blue wool kamerband around the aba. "Hafez" is often referred to as someone who is the protector and bravest among all. "Mahyar" is a Zoroastrian priest descending a set of stairs with his head somewhat down. "Mahyar" means a person who is the companion of the moon. "Meherzad" is the head Zoroastrian priest, standing in conversation with one hand behind his head. His kandu is deep purple with white trim. The name "Meherzad" is a particularly ancient Zoroastrian name, meaning born of the sun. "Nasir" is another Zoroastrian priest standing in conversation. You can tell that he is high-ranked because he has a deep purple cloth around his neck and it hangs at length down the front of his sedreh. The name "Nasir" means someone who is a defender of the righteous - a fitting name for a priest. "Pariz" is a male standing in conversation, with one hand forward in a talking gesture. He is wearing a dark purple silk kandu and matching cap, with no kamerband, along with a fine grey striped silk quisma and salvar. The name "Parviz" is taken from a character in the Shahnameh, and the word mean "undefeatable." The Shahnameh is a long epic poem (The Book Of Kings), a central literary work in Persian culture that tells the history of the Persian Empire from the mythological creation of the world until the time of the Muslim conquest. Among other things, it traces the beginnings of the Zoroastrian religion and follows it until the death of the last Sasanian emperor, which marked the end of Zoroastrian influence on the Persian culture. Most of the writing of the Shahnameh describes the golden ages of Ancient Persia in a way meant to inspire new generations of people to learn and try to build a better world. "Tausif" is the highest ranked nobleman on the scene. He is strolling with shoulders and head back, as befits his social status. He is wearing a green and brown brocade kandu with matching sarband, green silk quisma and salvar, olive green suede slippers - all with gold trims and small gold decorative balls sewn on his kandu. The name "Tausif" means a praiseworthy person. This package also inlcludes a simple additional bronze cup. This intended to be placed on a fountain ledge near one of the men drinking from the fountain. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Any application capable of importing and display models in the *.obj file format. INSTALLATION: Import the models into your application. Models in *.obj file format require the textures and materials to be in the same directory location as the models. If you are using Poser, you will wish to copy all of the textures to another texture directory within the Poser system. USAGE TIPS: For Poser and Daz users, all of the people are made to be about the size and shape of the standard Poser LaHomme Figure. In general, you might load the LaHomme figure into your application, then import one of these Ancient Persians, and adjust the scale of the Ancient Persian until it nearly matches the LaHomme Figure. For people using applications other than Poser or Daz, scale these figures in any way that appears to be reasonable in relationship to the buildings of the Istahr kitbash collection. All figures are fully UV mapped and are designed so that you freely can change the clothing materials of any figure to be as you like. (Well, OK..., you probably should leave the Zoroastrian priests clothed as they are in their correct religious garb.) You also can change the eye colors to be any color that you wish (one material for blue eyes and one material for brown-green eyes are included), and you can change the colors of the hair and beards of any of the figures. Please note that a wide array of fabrics deliberately are used on these figures so that you will have many material options for the figures. You can use these figures in any way you wish, in any scene of your own design, and they can be used in settings other than Istahr.
