The Massena 3D model is a fully-rigged Poser figure, sized for Poser people. Although designed for Poser, it is compatible with DAZ Studio (see notes below). FIGUREs Two figures are included: o Massena (Base) - without preloaded props o Massena – the base figure with a selection of props preloaded o Massena (Battle Trim) – Massena figure with some components hidden and some props removed to allow freer gun movement The fully rigged and poseable Massena figures have ERC controls at the Body level that, among other things: o Operate the guns, move the controls on the bridge, turn the rudder and spin the propellers. PROPS Preloaded o Anchor sets (hoists, anchors, and chain props) o 3-pounder guns o Boats stowed on the deck o Boats on davits o Morphing ensign and flag Additional smart props o Billboard smoke o At-anchor chains o Tower mast morphing flags o Torpedoes in launchers POSES o M4 helm pose o Hide anchor sets (for use with at-anchor chain props) (Note that in DAZ Studio the anchor, hoist, and chain props in the Anchor Set must be individually selected and hidden.) o Hide/show bridge side (for easier viewing of bridge interior) o Default MAT o MAT pose to turn on searchlight glow CAMERAS o Full camera set positioned for easy viewing and rendering of the full Massena figure. One or more textures use public domain resources from Wikimedia Commons. -------------------------------------- Notes on the Model The Massena model was built and textured based on French National Maritime plans, historical photos, and photos of a very detailed miniature model built by Jim Baumann. I didn't follow the references exactly. For example, the plans show a hydraulic control lever for the helm, not a wheel, and the engine telegraphs were actually located in the armored blockhouse below the bridge. -------------------------------------- Installation Instructions: Unzip files to your main Poser directory, being sure to check "Use Folder Names" and the files will unpack to their proper location. Refer to the file list below for file locations. Components are found in the "Michael_C/Massena" folder within each of the Poser sub-libraries (Figure, Pose, etc.). Note that although most of the Poser files may be moved to other locations, the geometries and textures MUST be in the listed locations. -------------------------------------- Usage Tips: The Massena figure uses ERC controls at the Body level. For easy access to the controls the figure's Body loads selected by default. PARAMETER DIALS - The parameter dial groups load collapsed for convenience. Open a group or subgroup to use its dials. Transform These standard dials control rotation and position of the Massena aircraft figure. Resize - This dial changes the size of the entire figure. Yaw, Pitch and Roll – Nautical terms for rotation in Y, X, and Z axes. Control Helm-Rudder – The wheel hydraulic control turns in concert with the rudder. Telegraphs – Individual Send and Response controls for each of the three engine telegraphs. Propellers – Spin the three propellers. Guns Individual controls for each of the 12-inch, 10-inch, 5.5-inch and 4-inch guns. - Train – point the gun left or right - Elevate – raise or lower the gun barrel All but the 4-inch guns have doors at the base of the barrel that can be closed. There are also controls to point the torpedo launchers on the bow. Gangways Individual controls to lower each of the four gangways. Searchlights Individually parented to each of the three searchlights. The stern deck searchlight is normally hidden in a locker and its light loads turned off. There is a control to deploy the searchlight on the deck. Miscel Wind Direction – This control rotates the flag lines about their masts and turns the smoke planes. Adjust smoke – Adjust the billboard smoke for a better perspective. POSES Crew Helmsman pose for M4. HIDE-SHOW Anchor Sets – Hide when using the At-Anchor chain props. (Note that in DAZ Studio the three props in each set must be individually selected to hide.) Bridge Side – Hide to better view the bridge interior MATs A Default MAT pose is provided. MAT pose to turn searchlight glow on and off PROPS Preloaded Port and starboard anchor sets: Specially positioned hoists, anchors, and chains. Boats mounted on the stern davits Boats stowed on deck Morphing flags mounted on the bow and stern masts 3-pounder guns on the fore and aft tower gun platforms Smart Props Additional flags for the tower top masts At-anchor chains (the corresponding anchor set should be removed or hidden per the pose listed above) Billboard smoke for each stack (For darker smoke load an additional copy and, using the local prop paramter, "Turn" it a degree or two) Torpedoes – These load mounted in the bow torpedo launchers CAMERAS MASSENA Set - All the standard cameras are positioned to show the complete MASSENA figure in its default loaded position. Note that adjustments may be necessary depending on your document window setup. Dolly CAMs Numerous Bridge interior and many exterior view Dolly cameras. LIGHTS Simple Daylight and Moonlight sets with included IBLs. Searchlights – Spotlights attached to the three searchlights (these light must be ADDED to the scene). The Stern searchlight light loads turned off (this searchlight is sowed in a cabinet off the stern deck). ------------------------------ -- DAZ Studio Compatibility - Tested in DAZ Studio 4.15 to the extent that parameter controls work as intended and the figure renders satisfactorily. I've made no attempt to convert or optimize materials. The Massena figure loads, operates, and renders in DAZ Studio. There are some incompatibilities as noted below. DAZ Studio uses different camera designations from Poser so the included camera presets don't all work. Those that work may require adjustment. In Poser the pose files automatically affect attached props. In DAZ Studio, individual props must be selected and the pose re-applied to make the changes to the props. For example, Anchor Set HIDE pose does not affect the three props that make up each set.
