The main element of the ride was a winged airship that he described in US Patent 725,509 as "a rocking platform having wings to represent an aerial ship … with scenic effects so arranged as to give to passengers the illusion of gradually ascending and descending through the air." The Retro Sci-Fi Airship Poser figure was inspired by a contemporary artist's impression of the airship in flight. The Retro AIrship 3D model is a fully-rigged Poser figure, sized for Poser people. Although designed for Poser, it is compatible with DAZ Studio (see notes below). One or more textures use public domain resources from Wikimedia Commons. -------------------------------------- Notes on the Model The Airship model is based on a contemporary artist's impress of the 1901 Pan-American Exposition "Trip to the Moon" dark ride. -------------------------------------- Installation Instructions: Unzip files to your main Poser directory, being sure to check "Use Folder Names" and the files will unpack to their proper location. Refer to the file list below for file locations. Components are found in the "Michael_C/Retro Airship" folder within each of the Poser sub-libraries (Figure, Pose, etc.). Note that although most of the Poser files may be moved to other locations, the geometries and textures MUST be in the listed locations. -------------------------------------- Usage Tips: The Airship figure uses ERC controls at the Body level. For easy access to the controls the figure's Body loads selected by default. PARAMETER DIALS - The parameter dial groups load collapsed for convenience. Open a group or subgroup to use its dials. Transform These standard dials control rotation and position of the Airship aircraft figure. Resize - This dial changes the size of the entire figure. Yaw, Pitch and Roll – Flight terms for rotation in Y, X, and Z axes. Control Steer Air – The helm control turns in concert with the fins and rear wings. Pitch Control – The E-wheel turns in concert with the tail. Engine Power – Operate the Power Control. Turn Prop – Spin the propeller. Special Steer Water – (When in "Swimming" Configuration) The helm control turns in concert with the Tail oriented as rudder. Surfaces Wings - Move the wings forward and backward or up and down together. - Tilt the front or back wings together. Fins - Move Left and Right Fins separately - Tilt - Sideways - Up-Down Tail - Orientation – position tail vertical or horizontal - Move Tail up-down and left-right, depending on orientation Misc - Open Hatch and deploy hatch stair - Adjust Hatch Steps up and down - Compass direction – change North POSES Crew Pilot poses for M4 and V4. Configurations - Default (as loaded) - Flying Goose - Swimming goose - Hide/Show Stack - Hide/Show Front and rear vents HIDE-SHOW - Hide the cabin or pilothouse roof - Hide the propeller for use with Propeller Blur prop MATs - Default MAT (as loaded) - Stylized goose MATs (with and without Gasbag logo) - Canada Goose - Snow Goose MATERIALS SL Glow – Select the individual Searchlight prop to turn glow ON and OFF. (The glow doesn't affect the attached light that is controlled from Light palette.) Goose SL MATs – Select each individual searchlight prop component (MT, Yoke, Searchlight) to apply the matching SEARCHLIGHT Goose MAT. The Default MAT restores the as-loaded material. - Canada Goose - Snow Goose PROPS Smart Props - Propeller Blur - Searchlights (with parented spotlights). The searchlights are composite prop sets of three components each. Select the yoke to rotate and the searchlight to tilt. Rear, Front, and within the Nose - Billboard smoke for some configurations CAMERAS Airship Set - All the standard cameras are positioned to show the complete Airship figure in its default loaded position. Note that adjustments may be necessary depending on your document window setup. Dolly CAMs Numerous interior and exterior view Dolly cameras. LIGHTS Simple Daylight and Moonlight sets with included IBLs. (Note that each Searchlight prop set loads with an attached spotlight.) ------------------------------ -- DAZ Studio Compatibility - Tested in DAZ Studio 4.15 to the extent that parameter controls work as intended and the figure renders satisfactorily. I've made no attempt to convert or optimize materials. The Airship figure loads, operates (mostly), and renders in DAZ Studio. There are some incompatibilities as noted below. The Pitch, Roll and Yaw parameters do not show up in "Transforms" but do appear under "All". The "Steer Water" does not work correctly, moving in the wrong axis. DAZ Studio uses different camera designations from Poser so the included camera presets don't all work.
