Ownership statement: All of the content in this package was created by EVargas. ---------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION: Extract the zip folder contents over your content library of choice. DESCRIPTION: Animated (looping) smoke rising from the ground, similar to that seen when testing sewer pipes. Available in two versions (slightly different simulations). It measures approx. 0.8 x 0.8 x 0.8 meters. ITEMS INCLUDED: - 3 premade groups to get started (single node smoke A, single node smoke B, two nodes smoke A and B). Simply duplicate the children to have more; - A sequence of 120 VDB files for each smoke type (A/B), with density attribute. It's a loop animation (matching start/end); - Script for rendering as multi-frame sequence (from current frame to the end of play range). It will consider all children from the GROUP. Each smoke can have its own timing (default 1, set in the Parameters/Script); - Material presets (Iray): Default, Density 200, Density 1000, Styles 1-4; - Scene presets with some examples for quick start. HOW TO USE: I suggest you start with one of the scene presets to get familiar with it. I set the play range in those to 120 frames @24fps. For still image you can render as usual. At any frame of the timeline, choose the VDB file you want to use in "surfaces tab / volume / volume file", choose a material preset or change settings manually and render. For animated sequences you need to use a different vdb file for each frame. You can achieve this with third-party methods if you are familiar with any, or you can use the custom script I provided. This script will accept multiple items in the scene, as long as they are all children of the same GROUP. A good tip to populate your scene is to use menu "edit/duplicate" to duplicate existing nodes inside the GROUP. You can then move/scale each as you want. You can set a different timing for each smoke item (child of the GROUP) under "Parameters/Script/Start Volume ID". This is set to 1 by default, and defines at which frame of the simulation it should start looping. You will probably want to play with this if you place multiple smokes of the same type in the scene. If you choose to use my script to render the animation, remember to follow theses steps before running it: - Choose "Still Image" in "Render settings/General/Destination/Render Type"; - In Scene tab, select the GROUP node (mine are named "GroupEVSmoke" by default); - Selected a start frame in timeline; - Save your scene. The script uses the render settings you have already set, it only changes the "Destination" part. Results will be written to a folder named "render" in the same location of your saved scene. I made it in a way that it always consider full loops starting from frame 0, and you can start from any frame in the timeline. So if your sequence crashes or you have to stop in the middle you can restart without a problem (a given frame always use the same vdb file). RENDERING: Ready for Nvidia Iray. This product uses the Simple OpenVDB MDL Volume shader preset, so if you are familiar with it you can manually change the settings in the surfaces tab (density, emission, etc...). I provide some custom material presets in the product folder if you want, to use it simply select the volume container and apply. Important! When rendering VDB volumes (more so if emission enabled) I recommend that you always set a time limit per frame (see render settings / progressive / max time in seconds). Daz Studio can make the math for you, so if you type for example "60*10" and click enter it will show 600 which means 10 minutes. Product tested on Windows 10 / Daz Studio 4.22. Not tested on Mac!
