Whether you need a single cable or hundreds, the Cable script can connect two points or form an intricate web of wires. With over ten customizable options, including cable length, thickness, slack, and variations of starting and ending points, the script can generate cables that are compatible with virtually any Iray material. This means you can model ropes, hoses, electrical wiring, and even suspension bridges effortlessly. System requirements: PC and DAZ Studio 4.22.0.16 and newer Needed files: No other files/products needed. Installation instructions: Unzip the downloaded product zip file(s) into your Documentation and Scripts directory/folder, as applicable. Usage tips/limitations: The Cable script can be found by default in the Scripts/ TheMarmalade80 /Cable directory/folder. It is quite easy to use: you only need two objects in your scene. In conjunction with the information below, please look at the product promotional images, they could illustrate some of the concepts better than the text below. The Cable script has the following options: - Select Object 1: select a node(object) in your scene. Any object can be selected, and the script will use its center as the starting/end point of the cable. Tip: perhaps the easiest is to use a Null object, so you can see exactly where the cable starts/ends. - Select Object 2: select a different object than Object 1. Tip: If the two objects are located at the same position or they are the same, the cable will be very small or there will be no cable generated. Tip: perhaps the easiest is to use a Null object, so you can see exactly where the cable starts/ends. - Number of cables: drag the slider or type in the number of cables desired. - Slack factor: drag the slider or type in the number for the slack factor. Think of it this way: for a slack factor of zero, the cable will be a straight line (shortest distance) between Object 1 and Object 2. A factor of 0.5 will create a cable that is 50% longer than the shortest distance, thus it can droop. Similarly, a factor of one will create a cable that is twice as long as the shortest distance, and so on… - Resolution: drag the slider or type in the number for the resolution (the number of segments) along the cable length. Higher the number, the more detailed the mesh and it adapts to a smooth curve better. - Resolution cross-section: drag the slider or type in the number (the number of segments) for the cable cross-section. The higher the number, the more the cable resembles a circular tube. However, at the extreme, you can create a strip (2) triangular (3) or square cross-section (4). For values of 0 and 1, there will be no cable generated. - Cable thickness: drag the slider or type in the number for the thickness (diameter) of the cable. Defined in DAZ Studio units. - Slack factor jitter: drag the slider or type in the number for the slack factor jitter. This variable randomly varies the slack factor in the range set by this variable around the value set for the slack factor above, e.g. final slack factor = slack factor – 0.5 * (slack factor jitter) + (slack factor jitter) * (random number between 0 and 1). - X/Y/Z position jitter: drag the slider or type in the number for the X/Y/Z position jitter. This variable randomly varies the starting/ending point of the cable in the range set by this variable around X/Y/Z center position of Object1/2 selected above, e.g. final X/Y/Z position = X/Y/Z position – 0.5 * (X/Y/Z position jitter) + (X/Y/Z position jitter) * (random number between 0 and 1). Defined in DAZ Studio units. - Cable thickness jitter: drag the slider or type in the number for the cable thickness jitter. This variable randomly varies the cable thickness in the range set by this variable around the value set for the cable thickness above, e.g. final cable thickness = cable thickness – 0.5 * (cable thickness jitter) + (cable thickness jitter) * (random number between 0 and 1). Defined in DAZ Studio units. - Accept button: accepts the values entered in the dialog box and executes the script, thus generating the cable(s). - Cancel button: cancels the script with no cables generated.
