Although Massospondylus was long depicted as quadrupedal, a 2007 study found it to be bipedal. It was a plant eater (herbivore) and was 4–5 meters (13–20 feet) long. African Massospondylus was a contemporary of early crocodylomorphs, therapsids and morganucodontid mammals.Also dinosaurs like the small theropod Megapnosaurus rhodesiensis; a species of Melanorosaurus and several genera of early ornithischians Lesothosaurus and the heterodontosaurids Abrictosaurus, Heterodontosaurus, and Lycorhinus.
